Lightweight Vacuum, ideal for those with Chronic Illness – Gtech AirRam K9 & Gtech Multi
Anyone who has read my posts about living with an invisible illness, Ankylosing Spondylitis will know one of the areas I struggle with is keeping on top of the housework. As a family, we are in and out of our house come rain or shine; we have two dogs traipsing in and out of the house, as well as the man of the house coming and going throughout the day, often covered in sawdust!
We not only need a hoover that picks up all of the muck that comes in, we need something that I can use throughout the day to keep on top of it all. The hoover we have had for the last few years, is quite honestly far too heavy for me to use, we only have one floor in our house and whilst it isn’t a huge space, setting about the housework and hoovering with a chronic condition, often fills me with dread. I realise housework isn’t something that anyone enjoys terribly much, however with an illness like Ankylosing Spondylitis, it can often be a painful and exhausting chore, even living in a small property.
I have spent the year since diagnosis searching for a vacuum that makes keeping the house clean that little bit easier, a tool that doesn’t fill me with dread every time I think about running it around the house. I took to Twitter a few months ago to put feelers out about what works best for others living with chronic illness, it was the robot vacuums that was mentioned a lot, however I felt at my stage of my Ankylosing Spondylitis condition, leaving something to run around the house wasn’t what I was after, I still wanted something to zip around with myself, especially as keeping moving myself is all part of staying well.
Step up Gtech and their cordless vacuum. I first saw the Gtech AirRam when staying at my sisters’ house; she wanted to quickly run the hoover around, so nipped into the spare room and brought out a gadget which resembled a vintage carpet sweeper, the type of thing that my grandmother had when I was a child to brush away dirt in-between cleanings. I asked to have a go and not only was it wonderfully lightweight (only 3.8kg!), but it was agile and very effective at scooping up dirt!
I contacted Gtech to ask if it would be possible to send me one to try and to my absolute joy, they sent me the Gtech AirRam K9 cordless vacuum which is like their original AirRam, however, this one is the K9 version, ideal for those with pets. I was also sent the Gtech Multi K9 cordless vacuum.
Gtech AirRam K9 Review
Gtech AirRam K9 cordless vacuum is charged in powerpoint and without a cord, can be run around the house with complete ease. A 4 hour charge, delivers 40 mins use and is more than enough time to do a thorough clean of the floors in our house. The dirt and waste is collected in bagless container and compacted into small bales to easily dispose of. The brush head picks up dirt and embedded hair from carpets and floors without having to change any settings, and can even get into and under tight spaces that I could reach with my previous vaccum.
Gtech Multi K9 Review
The Gtech Multi K9 is a hand-held vacuum cleaner and is the perfect cleaning companion for the AirRam K9. It comes with a range of attachments and offers the same cleaning performance as an AirRam K9, but in a hand-held solution. The wonderful thing about this particular cordless vacuum is that you can not only vacuum the floor, but the ceiling, furniture and all the hard to reach nooks and crannies too! I use this to dust sills, shelves and suck up cobwebs. We took it into my daughter’s playhouse the other day to give it a bit of a Spring clean and it handled all the muck that had been traipsed in over the Winter months. One 4-hour charge delivers up to 20 minutes of cordless vacuum cleaning.
The Gtech AirRam K9 cordless vacuum and Gtech Multi K9 are not the cheapest vacuums on the market, but you absolutely get what you pay for. It picks up the dog hairs and makes our carpet fuzz free, the floral scented filters which can be replaced, produce a wonderfully fresh small throughout the house and masks the often nasty dusty smell made by hoovering. Years of Dyson use, and we now believe that Gtech AirRam K9 and Gtech Multi K9 cordless vacuums are far better vacuums for our needs.
My husband wasn’t convinced, however he too, is now converted, I think he is genuinely happy that I am in less discomfort after doing housework. He doesn’t shy away from helping me keep the place clean and tidy, he is surprised now, how much cleaner the place is!
Both of these fabulous gadgets now sit, in the kitchen, much like the old broom and dustpan and brush did. Whilst a bulkier than a broom, they don’t take up much space, and are on hand as and when I want to pick anything up.
I can’t recommend these products enough, I haven’t been paid for this post, this post is the culmination of a year searching for a tool that not only delivers on keeping a mucky house clean, but also helps me keep on top of such a mundane job whilst living with a chronic invisible illness, Ankylosing Spondylitis.

For more information or to buy visit Gtech.
Please Note: I have not been paid for this post, although I received a Gtech AirRam K9 and Gtech Multi K9 in exchange for writing an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
